What should I wear?…This is always a question that comes up before shoots whether it’s just anytime portraits or an engagement session. I want to give some helpful pointers in this post that will help you when preparing for a session!
First of all, make sure you’re wearing something that reflects YOU and that you’re COMFORTABLE in! Your portrait session or e-session (engagement session) should reflect your personality and you don’t want to wear something that you normally wouldn’t wear.
Bring at least 2 outfits! It’s always fun to change things up. One outfit could be a little more casual and the other outfit could be dressier. Having two different outfits also allows for completely different looking portraits!
Here’s two outfit examples from Shelby & Khris’s session. See how the two different outfits can totally change the look/style of the portraits??

For couples…prints and patterns are totally fine just pay attention to both of your outfits. Ladies, if you have a top or a dress with flowers all over it I would suggest that your guy wears a solid color shirt or if it is patterned make sure it’s a subtle pattern and vice versa.
Neutrals and bright colors are both great…you can even mix them! Y’all don’t have to be matchy matchy. Just pay attention to colors/prints and don’t wear something that would totally clash with what the other is wearing and vice versa. I actually like when couples don’t match exactly, but still wear things that look great together. Another thing you can do is focus on one pop of color that is in both of your outfits…like say, YELLOW that way y’all will still coordinate but won’t be super matchy. For example he could be wearing a shirt with yellow stripes and you could have yellow shoes! You don’t want to over do it…just a subtle POP of color.
Contrasting colors are also great. For example if your guy wears a gray tone and then you wear a bright color!
Ladies…also think about your jewelry! You can completely spice up your outfit with an awesome necklace and add a pop of color that way! You can also add a pop of color with shoes!
Also, I wouldn’t wear anything that has words/graphics or large logos on it, they can be distracting in the photographs (small logos, like on polos are totally fine though).
