My Coaching Session with Katelyn James

Most of you know by now that I had my coaching session with Katelyn James!!! Originally my session was suppose to be September 12th, but I came down with a nasty virus and had to cancel. I was so upset and the last thing I wanted to do was email Katelyn and cancel! Luckily, we were able to reschedule for last Thursday!! I really do think every thing happens for a reason and in some ways it might have worked out better this way. There are usually two photographers so when it’s time for headshots I would be shooting the other photographer, but instead I got to shoot Katelyn!!! At first, I was really nervous about this but Katelyn makes you feel SO comfortable and my nerves immediately went away because we were laughing and having so much fun!!

I was so excited for this day and it went by so fast!! I pulled up at Katelyn’s house in the morning to meet her at her home office. I had my huge list of questions typed out, paper, highlighters and pens to take notes…I was so ready!!! Katelyn greeted me outside with a hug and we went upstairs to her adorable office!! It’s way cuter in person too! We went over all of my questions and more. Katelyn is so easy to talk to and after following her for the past four years I felt like I already knew her! I am so thankful that Katelyn shares so much of herself and her business and wants to help new photographers that are starting out. She believes in photographers teaching other photographers and growing this industry as a whole. This is something I believe in and once I gain enough knowledge and experience I want to give back as well. One thing that we discussed is setting goals for my business, which I am very excited about! My goal for the first of the year is my branding!!! I am SO excited about this and can’t wait to watch it all come together! Another goal for next year is to shoot 10+ weddings! I’ve already booked two…so 8 more to go!!

After we went over all of my questions and spent some time on the computer it was time for lunch! We ate at Bertucci’s in short pump…a really good Italian restaurant! Then it was time for headshots!!! Katelyn wanted to shoot at midday because that is when the light is the harshest…making it hard for photographers to work with.  Everyone needs a little challenge though! Plus, as a photographer it’s important to understand how to work in any lighting situation. Our first location was literally on the side of the road! Katelyn started out with me and gave me complete direction and treated me just like she would with her clients. This girl is SO good at what she does…she had me laughing the entire time! Even when I was suppose to be doing my “model face”…whoops!! Katelyn makes you feel so comfortable in front of the camera and makes you feel like you are literally a million bucks! I learned how to shoot under trees in harsh light and also to pay attention to the direction of the light. Now it was my turn to shoot Katelyn!!! Enjoy some of my favorites from the day! Katelyn, I seriously cannot thank you enough! I had such a wonderful time with you and thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself and your business. You are such an amazing person and photographer and you inspire me every day! I know you are having a wonderful time at the P31 conference and your talks will be more than amazing!!!

Katelyn is SO cute and I love her style…I am especially loving that cute little mustard cardigan!!

One of my favorites! Katelyn, you are SO gorgeous!!!

Can anybody guess where we are?? A parking garage! And look at that light…oh my goodness it was beautiful!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!!!
